Christian church leaders—with only a handful of exceptions—and the people whom they shepherd and who listen to them hold this view: Si vis pacem, para bellum (If you want peace, prepare for war). I searched the entire New Testament but did not find a single passage which permits violent self-defense, or, even more so, makes it a duty, or which supports armaments and war. On the contrary, I found many passages which proclaim the exact opposite of what is generally taught today in state and church.
